Elevation of Structures Reduces Flood Risk
House Elevations

This home was elevated over and beyond the Base Flood Elevation. The BFE is the minimum elevation requirement established for a 100 year flood event. The homeowner chose to increase the height to allow for a garage on the ground level. One of the requirements for funding is not to have any living area on the ground floor. The garage may be flooded, but can be quickly restored to its use as a parking structure. The living area atop the garage remained undamaged.

House Elevations in Progress
The houses are separated from their foundations, new foundations poured, and the house literally raised to the desired height. They are reconnected to their utilities and lowered down onto the new foundations.
